Republic of Ireland ace surprises children in Trent Vale

STOKE CITY star Stephen Ireland stopped by at a local school on Tuesday afternoon to help highlight the importance of good communication skills.

The Republic of Ireland ace, who arrived at the Britannia Stadium from Aston Villa in the summer, spent over an hour with the children at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Trent Vale.

He emphasised how important communication was between himself and his Potters teammates on matchdays, as well as explaining the many benefits of communicating well with others in all walks of life.

“It’s fantastic to be out and about in the community,” he enthused. “It’s important for us to come to places like this and give a little bit of encouragement to the youngsters.

“We are here today to obviously help and emphasise the importance of communication to the children, who all seem to be embracing what it is all about.

“At their age they are still getting to grips with reading and writing, so to pop along and explain the benefits of taking these two skills seriously is definitely worthwhile.

“These are vital skills for any career that they may choose to go into in the future, whether it be in sport, like myself, or a more office based type of job.”

He added: “Everybody at the school has been incredibly welcoming, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the time that I have spent here with the children and their teachers.”
