Pulis waiting on fitness of three key players

TONY PULIS has doubts surrounding three key players ahead of Stoke City’s clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday.

Marc Wilson, who missed last weekend’s win over Norwich City after aggravating a hamstring injury at Queens Park Rangers, has been joined on the casualty list by Andy Wilkinson and Glenn Whelan.

Wilkinson and Whelan failed to stay the distance against the Canaries after picking up back and groin injuries respectively and Pulis admits the trio are a worry ahead of the trip to Wearside.

He said: “Marc is still a concern for us and so are Andy and Glenn after they came off on Saturday.

“We’ve got three people who we’re not sure of and we could certainly do with one of the defenders being fit. Fingers crossed, but at the moment those three are a concern.”

The Potters will be chasing a third successive win when they go head-to-head with Sunderland after pulling clear of the relegation scrap with victories over QPR and Norwich.

Pulis added: “We’ve got 40 points and good goal difference which is what we wanted.

“Now is the time to push-on; we have to do that because mathematically we’re still not safe.

“We need to get as many points as possible and it would be lovely to finish the season with a few more wins.

“If we can win two of our last three and get a draw we could end up in the top half of the Premier League, which would be a great season for us.”
