Midfielder predicting entertaining showdown on Saturday

CHARLIE ADAM believes this Saturday’s opening home game of the campaign against newly promoted Crystal Palace will be an entertaining affair.

The Potters play host to the Eagles at the Britannia Stadium with both sides seeking their first points of the season having slipped to narrow 1-0 defeats during last weekend’s Premier League openers against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Adam, who enjoyed a successful spell under Palace boss Ian Holloway at Blackpool, feels that both sides will be looking for maximum points from the fixture, despite suggesting that his former boss may opt for a more conservative approach than in his previous post.

“It should be an entertaining match, and one that I am really looking forward to,” the Scotland international told #pottersmag in the build-up to the game.

“I think the way that we have progressed over the past seven or eight weeks has been very encouraging and we have passed the ball well, we have moved it up the pitch well and we have created good opportunities in games.

“Last weekend we were disappointed because we felt that we could have got something out of what was a very difficult opening game for us, unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.

“That is behind us now though, and the biggest objective now is to go and earn all three points against Crystal Palace in front of our own supporters.”

He added: “You saw in the game against Tottenham last weekend that Palace were a little more conservative than Blackpool were, but still tried to move forward and play attacking football.

“I think away from home, they may be more defence minded, especially for the first 20 minutes or so, but after that they will give it a real go, because that is the way that Ian likes his side’s to play football matches.”
