Sorensen is crowned Stoke Kitchen winner

IT WAS a case of ‘second time lucky’ for Thomas Sorensen as he was finally named the King of the Kitchen at last night’s Stoke Kitchen featuring Gino D’Acampo sponsored by Wrights.

The Danish goalkeeper missed out to Michael Owen in last year’s cook-off at the Britannia Stadium but he made no mistake this time around to scoop the top prize.

His success was all the more remarkable considering he was a late entrant into the competition after the withdrawal of Stephen Ireland through illness.

Sorensen was due to be on to the judges, alongside top TV chef D’Acampo, but instead donned his chef’s whites to see off the challenge of Potters teammates Erik Pieters and Jermaine Pennant.

He said: “I was looking forward to tasting the food rather than preparing it but then got a call to say Stephen had been forced to pull out through illness and would I step in?

“I was happy to as I really enjoyed the experience last year and wanted to try and make up for the disappointment of missing out on the title to Michael.

“Erik, Jermaine and myself had a really great night and, of course, I’m delighted to have emerged as the winner.”

City’s Head of Commercial Andrew Billingham, who was also one of the judges, said: “The players really threw themselves into the competition and showed themselves to be great sports.

“Gino was Gino; a lot of fun to be around and he built up a great rapport with not only the audience but also with Erik, Jermaine and Thomas, who should be thanked for stepping in at late notice and congratulated for winning the event.”

The Club would like to thank event sponsors Wrights, ABM Catering Facilities Management, KMF, Eyelid Centre, Veincentre and Stepping Stones Group for helping to make the event such a great success.

Plans for Stoke Kitchen 2014 are already being made … and big changes are on the way.
