STOKE CITY 1 (Downes 43 og)
TORQUAY UNITED: Poke, Oastler, Nicholson, Downes, Saah, Lathrope, Mansell, Jarvis, Howe, Morris, Stevens. Subs: Leadbitter, Rice, Macklin, Bodin, Mackenzie, Eason, Cruise, Thompson, Yeoman, Ifil.
CITY: Sorensen (Nash 67); Wilson, Shawcross (c) (Wilkinson 67), Upson (Higginbotham 67), Boenisch (Tonge 67); Shotton (Sidibe 67), Palacios (Arismendi 67), Whelan (Whitehead 55), Etherington (Ness 55); Walters (Jerome 46), Crouch (Jones 46). Sub (Not Used): Delap.
9.13pm: That's it from us tonight, we're back tomorrow evening for the second of our pre-season friendlies in the South West, as we move on to Yeovil Town. Bye for now!
92 mins: And there's the final whistle, another workout for the lads after the drive down from Stoke-on-Trent today. It's also worth pointing out that the lads in fact trained this morning so the fitness aspect is still the prime objective with these games.
Stoke fizzled out a little as a result of fatigue and numerous changes in the second half, but Tony Pulis won't worry too about that.
90 mins: Two minutes added time here tonight, and Torquay are looking for a winner. Ashley Yeoman shoots from just inside the area as the home team bomb forward on a counter attack. Great save by Nash, who tips it behind for a corner. Sidibe then heads that clear.
88 mins: 2,155 the attendance here tonight.
83 mins: A standing ovation from the home support for Paul Bristow, who we're told was a Lottery winner some years ago and pumped a lot of money into Torquay United. He died a couple of years back but his wife has continued where he left off and gave money to the club in order to build the new stand.
81 mins: A good run by winger Niall Thompson down the right, a low shot to follow but Nash gets down to his left to save.
78 mins: Torquay have their goal, and its new signing Billy Bodin. Must admit you caould see them coming into the game more and growing in confidence. Nash had no chance with that strike, and it's one apiece.
77 mins: Wilkinson alert there to keep up with the winger to stop his efforts of reaching a clever through ball. Cleared away.
76 mins: Bodin with a powerful strike defelcted past the post there. Kenwyne Jones then with the header away from the corner. The home side have had a few chances but nothing surprising there with all of the changes. As Tony Pulis has said before, its all about getting minutes under the belt at this stage.
74 mins: Good headers away from Higginbotham and Wilkinson as Torquay turn the screw and look for a goal for themselves.
70 mins: Higginbotham with a foul on Bodin there, free kick to the home side. Howe heads over when he might have hoped he'd have hit the target from there.
69 mins: Huge cheers for Mama Sidibe from the travelling band behind the goal, its the first time most of them would have seen him playing for quite some time! I was there when he got his last injury at Port Vale in the reserves, so its the same for me too. He's lining up on the right for the remainder of the game having come on for Shotton.
67 mins: More subs for Stoke - Carlo Nash on for Sorensen, Higginbotham and Wilkinson on for Shawcross and Upson, Tonge on for Boenisch, Sidibe on for Shotton, and finally Arismendi for Palacios.
64 mins: A stoppage in play as a Torquay defender goes down needing treatment, to his head we think. The physio runs on quite theatrically which gives the travelling couple of hundred Stokies a cheer!
60 mins: Must point out that with the staff-rota this is my first game watching the lads since last season, and they look in good shape. The Swiss and US trips have clearly done them good and hopefully they can fire out of the blocks when we head to Reading for the first game of the season.
58 mins: And Stoke have the ball in the back of the net, Jerome with a header! Sadly it's ruled out though, as the striker was adjudged to be offside when he got on the end of Whitehead's free kick. Buried the header though. Still 1-0.
57 mins: Shotton fouled down the right wing, Stoke free kick now.
55 mins: Whelan and Etherington replaced by Ness and Whitehead. Stoke passing the ball in midfield with some nice touches.
8.34pm: BBC Radio Stoke's Matt Sandoz kindly got the round in at half-time, but he wished he hadn't - £6.80 for two Diet Cokes! Ouch!
8.33pm: Right we're back underway here. Jones and Jerome on up front for Crouch and Walters.
8.25pm: We're being treated to a crossbar challenge here on the pitch as the sun begins to head down for the night. It's a nice and friendly atmosphere on the South Coast, we're glad after the long trip down.
8.18pm: Half-time here, 1-0 to Stoke. And a chance for us to get our breathe back. We've being playing catch up but we're there. After the game we'll make sure we investigate the situation regarding Boenisch and who is officially getting credit for that goal! Both Crouch and Walters, who were in the area, sheepishly celebrated the goal and we think that they'd receive more credit had it been them.
43 mins: And Stoke go 1-0 up! A bit of a debate as to who turned it home, we have a poor view, but we've being told it was diverted in by centre half Aaron Downes. Shotton came down the right switched it to Etherington. He slammed it goalwards, with the ball finding its way post Poke via a deflection. We're told from that it was going wide from people at another angle.
38 mins: Another corner for the Potters but they cannot make a goalscoring chance and a second ball is looped out and over for a goal kick.
30 mins: Shotton with a shot from inside the area, well saved by Poke.
26 mins: Ryan Shotton loops a long throw into the area from the left wing, headed clear by the defender.
23 mins: Sorensen does well to get his finger-tips to a low strike to push it around the post. He also claims the corner well as he makes his claim for the number one spot.
22 mins: A powerful free kick straight in the Stoke wall
20 mins: Stoke should be 1-0 up now and Peter Crouch has his head in his heads. Good work from Etherington down the left, a low ball squared to him, but he places it well wide. You're allowed to be a little rusty in pre-season though!
19 mins: Thankfully nothing has been missed, a couple of half chances and blocks. The main news is the surprise appearance of Polish international Sebastian Boenisch at left back. The Pole represented his country at UEFA Euro 2012 this summer and is available on a Bosman ruling free transfer after leaving German outfit Werder Bremen. At present we presume this is a trial for him.
18 mins: Welcome to stokecityfc.com for coverage of tonight's pre-season friendly at Torquay, the Club's first back on home soil.
We've experienced some wifi problems here tonight at Plainmoor, as Torquay officially open their brand new stand. We've resorted to going back to their old press box, which is pretty much a couple of planks of wood made into a table! Up and away now though...
