Club looking to build on surge of interest in social media

STOKE CITY have their sights set on hitting the 100,000 mark for followers on their official Twitter account following a massive increase in interest this season.

The Club are aiming to reach that notable landmark over the next five weeks ahead of Twitter celebrating its seventh birthday on Thursday 21st March.

Thousands of supporters have recognised this season that the Official Stoke City Twitter account is the best way to keep up to date with all the latest news.

At the start of this season, the Club had just over 37,000 followers, but this figure has soared to more than 83,000 now and is rising at a rapid rate each day.

As you can probably imagine, there was a particular surge of interest around transfer deadline day when City signed Brek Shea and goalkeeper Jack Butland.

But more extensive coverage of many other events, including the manager’s pre-match press conference each week and the games themselves, have contributed to the increase in interest over the past six months since the 2012-13 season got underway.

Another popular feature has been the opportunity for Potters supporters to put their questions to the first team stars in the Socially Speaking column which has been run regularly in the Club’s award-winning Potters Matchday Magazine this season.

The success of the Official Stoke City Twitter account reflects the growing presence of Twitter and as well as being able to follow the main account itself for stories and information, there is also the opportunity to keep in touch with specific areas of the Club’s operation such as the Commercial Department, the Ticket Office and the Community Trust.
