Polish star out to impress Potters at Yeovil

POLISH international Sebastian Boenisch was handed another chance to impress Tony Pulis in Stoke City’s pre-season game at Yeovil Town.

The 27-year-old full-back made his second start for the Potters in the space of 24 hours after being given his initial runout in the draw with Torquay.

Pulis named a strong line-up for the game at Huish Park, although England striker Peter Crouch was not risked because of a hip injury picked up at Plainmoor.

That meant a place in the starting line-up for Kenwyne Jones who started alongside Jonathan Walters, while Dean Whitehead also came into the side.

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who had a spell on loan at Yeovil earlier in his career, was preferred to Thomas Sorensen in the Potters’ goal.

Another City player, Marc Wilson, was also back at the club where he had a short period on loan during his days with Portsmouth.

Yeovil: Stech, Ayling, McAllister, Hinds, Webster, Blizzard, Upson, Hayter, Reid, Foley, Ugwu. Subs: Marsh Brown, Stewart, Young, Ralph, Haynes Brown.

City: Begovic, Boenisch, Wilson, Shawcross, Upson, Shotton, Whelan, Whitehead, Etherington, Jones, Walters. Subs: Sorensen, Higginbotham, Palacios, Arismendi, Tonge, Jerome, Delap.

Referee: I. Williamson
