City Stars Go Bananas!

STOKE CITY defenders Andy Wilkinson and Ryan Shotton have given their backing to the annual celebration of the Fairtrade movement.

The two Academy products of the Potters were on hand to promote the distribution of Fairtrade bananas to local primary schoolchildren.

Fairtrade Fortnight is currently taking place and is being supported by the Club's Official Community and Banking Partner The Co-operative.

"It is important that we understand where our food comes from and that those who produce it get a fair deal," commented Wilkinson. "By working with The Co-operative during Fairtrade Fortnight, the Club is helping to raise awareness of this issue."

The bananas will be distributed to 40 local primary schools as part of The Co-operative Football Roadshow over the next two weeks.

The Co-operative's unique sourcing policy goes beyond delivering typical Fairtrade premiums to suppliers, meaning the business also provides additional investment to communities across the globe, helping them improve the quality of life.

Fairtrade Fortnight is the annual celebration of the Fairtrade movement that helps producers in developing countries by guaranteeing fair prices and providing an additional social premium to fund vital community projects.

As part of the promotional launch, The Co-operative provided a supply of Fairtrade bananas for City players to enjoy after training.
