JONATHAN WALTERS' superbly taken first-half goal was enough to secure Stoke City their first victory in the United States as they produced a polished performance to beat Major League Soccer side FC Dallas in Texas.

The Republic of Ireland international sublimely fired home the only goal of the game after Dutch international Erik Pieters picked him out with a delightful through ball.

Substitute Cameron Jerome could have added to the tally from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time, but his effort was well saved by Dallas number one Raul Fernandez.

The game did end on a sour note however as Andy Wilkinson was shown a red card for what the referee deemed as violent conduct.
