Five Changes For Cup Clash

Thumbnail
MARK HUGHES named a strong line-up for the Potters Capital One Cup 4th Round encounter against Birmingham City at St Andrews on Tuesday evening.

The City boss made five changes to his side, handing starts to the likes of Oussama Assaidi, Jermaine Pennant and Spanish under 21 starlet Marc Muniesa.

As expected Thomas Sorensen was handed the jersey in goal, at the expense of regular starter Asmir Begovic, and he ushered a back four that comprised of Marc Wilson, Ryan Shawcross, Robert Huth and Muniesa.

Wilson Palacios, who enjoyed a loan spell at St Andrews earlier in his career, retained his spot in the middle, having impressed at Old Trafford at the weekend, and he lined up in the heart of the team alongside Steven Nzonzi.

The two spots out wide went to former Blues star Pennant and the on loan Liverpool winger Assaidi, whilst Marko Arnautovic played in the hole just behind lone striker Peter Crouch.

Stoke City: Sorensen; Wilson, Shawcross (c), Huth, Muniesa; Pennant, Nzonzi, Arnautovic, Palacios, Assaidi; Crouch. Subs: Begovic, Pieters, Ireland, Adam, Shea, Walters, Jones.
