Hughes Confirms Allen Absence

Joe Allen

MARK HUGHES has ruled Joe Allen out of tomorrow’s encounter with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Potters midfielder suffered a nasty head injury whilst in action for Wales earlier this week, leading to his premature withdrawel.

Hughes initially hoped that the former Liverpool man would be available for selection this weekend, but speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, the Welshman confirmed that he will remain sidelined.

Joe’s not great actually - he came in yesterday, felt a lot better, but the reality is that he isn’t going to be available,” he said.

“Clearly concussion is something that you can’t take any risks with, and we have to follow the protocol.

“We hope that he shows an improvement and is able to return to training next week.

“He won’t be available for Saturday, unfortunately, He had a big bang to the head, and he finds it difficult to remember the incident itself, so that tells you the severity of it.”

He added: “We have to be careful, we are being guided by the right people, so we will abide by them.”

Make sure you log on to stokecityfc.com at 2.00pm tomorrow to find out which XI the City boss goes with as he looks to plot the downfall of Pep Guardiola’s men.
