Hughes Hopeful On Duo

MARK HUGHES has delivered promising news on the availability of two of his players ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League showdown with Southampton.

The City boss looked to have been without both Marko Arnautovic and Jonathan Walters for the long trip to the south coast, after the pair were forced to limp out of last weekend's memorable victory against Manchester United.

However, both are in contention to feature at St Mary's after their prognosis wasn't as bad as initially feared.

"Thankfully, neither of them are as bad as they could have been, although at this moment in time Marko is the bigger doubt of the two," the Welshman told

"Jon is the more likely to make a full recovery in time for the game, but we still have 48 hours before the match so we will take a good look at Marko in that time.

"Hopefully both of them will be available to me, but if there is any doubt whatsoever then I won't put them at risk."

Hughes will also have to make the decision on whether to hand an immediate recall to central midfielder Steven Nzonzi after he was forced to sit out the United victory through suspension.

"It's good to have him back available because it is another body for me, but in terms of whether he will come back into the side that is something that I need to make a decision on between now and kick-off."

Long-term absentees Andy Wilkinson and Matthew Etherington are back in training, although Robert Huth is still a couple of weeks away from returning.

After famously conquering Manchester United, the Potters will be gunning for a second successive Britannia Stadium win when they face Swansea next Wednesday.
