Hughes Names Strong Burton Line-up

MARK HUGHES fielded a strong side against League Two side Burton Albion in a pre-season friendly at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Both Geoff Cameron and Peter Odemwingie got their first taste of action after returning from their extended break following the World Cup Finals in Brazil, with the American being handed the captain's armband for the fixture.

Jack Butland started in goal and marshalled a back four containing Ryan Shotton, Cameron, Dionatan Teixeira and Development Squad defender Elliot Wheeler.

Steve Sidwell was the standout name utilised in central midfield and joined Jamie Ness and Honduras international Wilson Palacios.

Former West Bromwich Albion attacker Odemwingie provided width from the right for Cameron Jerome upfront, with American international Brek Shea getting an opportunity to shine out on the left flank.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old midfielder Oliver Shenton was named on a young substitutes' bench which also included forward James Alabi.

Stoke City: Butland; Shotton, Cameron (c), Teixeira, Wheeler; Odemwingie, Ness, Sidwell, Palacios, Shea; Jerome. SUBS: Eve; Watkins, Ward, Shenton, Taylor, Alabi.
