International Round-Up

WHILE Ryan Shawcross was making history by becoming the first Stoke City player to represent England in a full international for 28 years against Sweden last night, a selection of his Club teammates were also earning their colours.

Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu, Asmir Begovic and Glenn Whelan all featured in international friendlies around the globe for their respective countries.

Central midfielder Whelan started for the Republic of Ireland in their friendly against Greece in Dublin, although he was forced off after just 34 minutes with a recurrence of hamstring problem that has dogged his campaign so far.

Giovanni Trapattoni's men fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat after a Jose Holebas goal midway through the first-half at the Aviva Stadium - a match that Jonathan Walters had withdrawn from prior to kick-off.

Cameron and Edu both featured for the United States in their 2-2 draw against Fabio Capello's Russia, with the former playing 87 minutes before being replaced by the goalscorer of the late equaliser, Mix Diskerud.

Edu came on as a second-half substitute in the match in Krasnodar, with Russia's goals coming from Fedor Smolov and Roman Shirokov and the United States' through Michael Bradley and Diskerud.

City stopper Begovic played a full 90 minutes for Bosnia as they snatched a last-gasp winner in their friendly in Algiers against Algeria.

Muamer Svraka popped up in the fourth minute of added on time to settle a tie that had been heading towards a 0-0 stalemate.
