Jet-Setting Potters

WHILST the eyes of the majority of Stoke City supporters will be fixated on Wembley Stadium this evening, in the hope of Ryan Shawcross picking up his first ever England cap . . . several other Potters stars will be featuring for their native countries in the latest round of internationals.

In total, seven City players could represent their nations as the qualifying campaigns for the hotly anticipated 2014 World Cup in Brazil takes centre stage over the course of the next five days.

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has already confirmed Jonathan Walters as a definite starter in their Group C encounter against European heavyweights Germany, in Dublin on Friday, though Glenn Whelan unfortunately misses out through injury.

Their Stoke team-mate Marc Wilson will have to be content with a spot on the bench however, despite impressing during his 45-minute cameo role against Oman at Fulham's Craven Cottage last month.

Summer signing Charlie Adam is expected to start in the centre of midfield for Scotland as they look to record their first victory in qualifying against Wales, having been previously held to back-to-back Hampden Park draws against Serbia and Macedonia.

Elsewhere, Asmir Begovic travels to Greece with his Bosnian teammates desperate to build upon their impeccable qualifying start, which saw them record emphatic 8-1 and 4-1 victories against Liechtenstein and Latvia.

Meanwhile, American duo Geoff Cameron and Maurice Edu are both in contention to start in Antigua in their crucial CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier.

The United States could secure their passage through to the next round of qualifying over the course of the next four days, should they pick up maximum points from their games against Antigua and Guatemala, in Kansas next Tuesday.

The full list of international matches involving City players over the next five days are:

Ryan Shawcross (England v San Marino and Poland)
Jonathan Walters and Marc Wilson (Republic of Ireland v Germany and Faroe Islands)
Charlie Adam (Scotland v Wales and Croatia)
Asmir Begovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina v Greece and Lithuania)
Geoff Cameron and Maurice Edu (USA v Antigua and Guatemala)
