Jones Starts For Potters

KENWYNE JONES was handed his first league start of the season for the Potters against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday . . . after Peter Crouch was forced to miss out on a trip to the Hawthorns after suffering a facial injury in the midweek victory against Newcastle.

Tony Pulis was hoping to receive the all clear from the medical staff to include Crouch in his matchday squad for the game against the high-flying Baggies, however, the specialists advised  against featuring the front-man.

The rest of the side was as you were against Newcastle, with Pulis again deploying a 4-5-1 formation, spearheaded by the recalled Jones.

Republic of Ireland international Jonathan Walters and Matthew Etherington continued on the flanks, with Steven Nzonzi, Glenn Whelan and the more attacking Charlie Adam occupying the three central midfield spots.

Asmir Begovic ushered a backline which again consisted of United States ace Geoff Cameron, skipper Ryan Shawcross, Robert Huth and Fenton-born youngster Ryan Shotton.

Andy Wilkinson returned back from injury to take up a spot on the bench, alongside the likes of Wilson Palacios, Thomas Sorensen, Michael Kightly and midweek goalscoring hero Cameron Jerome.
