Owen Up For Chef Challenge

MICHAEL OWEN has taken up a challenge to brush up on his domestic skills by agreeing to compete in this year's Stoke Kitchen contest next month.

The England striker will be one of three City players taking part in a competition to determine who is the Club's 2012 Master Chef when they are put to the test by the Italian celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday 9th October.

Owen, who signed a one-year contract with the Potters last week, admitted in a recent appearance on All Star Mr and Mrs that domestic chores were not his strong point.

However, he is determined to prove otherwise by accepting the invitation to take part in the contest alongside another of the Club's international stars Thomas Sorensen.

"I can't say I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I am fortunate that my wife Louise does most of the cooking in our house," commented the new signing.

"I am looking forward to the challenge though, and hopefully picking up a few tips along the way from Gino, but can't do too well otherwise I'll get asked to do the cooking at home."

Owen is the second City player to be lined up for the 2012 Stoke Kitchen, together with Sorensen, and the third contestant will be confirmed early next week.

The pair will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Rory Delap and Matthew Upson who were crowned the Club's Master Chefs in the previous two years when this competition proved to be both hugely successful and highly entertaining.

While the event itself is being sponsored by Wrights Pies, Owen's quest to win the 2012 Stoke Kitchen is being backed by Lister Trade Frames.

Derrith Turner, of Listers, said: "We are delighted to be offering our support to Michael and it will be fascinating to see how he gets on in the circumstances.

"Stoke Kitchen has proved to be a fantastic night's dining and entertainment over the past two years and with the quality of contestants already lined up for this event, it has all the ingredients for being another occasion not to be missed."

Tickets for the 2012 Stoke Kitchen are priced at £1,500 plus VAT for a table of 10 people which includes a three course meal and three bottles of wine on each table, as well as photographic opportunities on the night.
