Pirates Swoop For Sweeney

RYAN SWEENEY has today joined League One promotion hopefuls Bristol Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old defender moves to the Memorial Ground after impressing for the Potters in Premier League 2 action this term.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has made 11 appearances for the U23 side since arriving from AFC Wimbledon in the summer.

Sweeney is ineligible to make his Gas debut against Walsall at the Banks's Stadium after missing Friday's midday deadline, but he is expected to be in the squad for their home clash with Swindon Town on Saturday week.

Darrell Clarke's side are currently sat in ninth place in the league table, just four adrift of Fleetwood Town who occupy the final play-off position.
