Preserving Memories

A TIME CAPSULE commemorating Stoke City's 150th anniversary has been buried at the Britannia Stadium.

Containing items with special significance to the Club's recent history, the capsule will remain underground for the next 50 years before it will be unearthed for fans of the future to take a look at its contents.

The capsule includes a match shirt from the 2011 FA Cup final, newspaper match reports, a programme from City's 1972 League Cup final triumph, season review DVDs and a pair of current skipper Ryan Shawcross' boots.

The capsule has been placed next to the Sir Stanley Matthews statue as part of improvement work taking place in that area of the stadium. The work also includes the construction of a memorial garden.

Chairman Peter Coates, Chief Executive Tony Scholes and manager Mark Hughes attended the ceremony.

City's Head of Community Adrian Hurst said: "We wanted to mark such a significant milestone in the Club's history in a way that will involve future generations of fans and we came up with the idea of a time capsule.

"The capsule contains a whole host of items that I'm sure will interest our future fans when the time capsule is dug up in 2063 when the Club celebrates its 200th anniversary."
