Spotlight On Sir Stan

LEADING SPORTS WRITER Jon Henderson has put Stoke City's most famous son under the spotlight in his latest book 'The Wizard: The Life of Stanley Mathews'.

And we've got five copies of the first full and objective biography of the legendary figure to give away in our super competition.

Sir Stan spent 19 years as a Potter in two spells at the Victoria Ground and remarkably played until he was 50 years of age.

He played 54 times for England in a career that spanned an extraordinary 23 years - he remains the longest-serving England player - and was 48 when he helped Stoke clinch promotion to the old First Division.

Henderson's book looks beyond the public face of the 'first gentleman of soccer' to explore a life not without controversy but also recreates the magic on the pitch and analyses the key moments that made him great.

To be in within a chance of winning a copy of 'The Wizard: The Life of Stanley Mathews' just answer this simple question:

Against which team did Stanley Matthews re-launch his Stoke City career after re-joining the Club from Blackpool?

* Incidentally, Henderson will be signing copies of his book at Waterstone's Hanley Tontines on Saturday 8th June between 1 and 3pm. It is also available from the Club Stores at the Britannia Stadium and Potteries Shopping Centre.
