Statue Refurbishment

WORK TO improve the area surrounding the Sir Stanley Matthews Statue at the Britannia Stadium is to begin next week.

The work will see the creation of a memorial garden and the installation of new seating, while significant landscaping improvements will also be made as the Club looks to make even more of a feature of the landmark that celebrates the achievements of its greatest ever player.

A time capsule commemorating the Potters' 150th anniversary in 2013, which contains items relating to the Club's recent history including boots worn by skipper Ryan Shawcross, match shirts, newspaper reports and match-day programmes, will also be preserved for fans of the future.

The work will begin on Monday and the Statue will be off limits to members of the general public until City's first home game of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, against Aston Villa on August 16. The Club would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Any supporters who have left memorabilia around the Statue are urged to contact Stadium Facilities Manager Jonathan Maynard on 01782 592282 to arrange a suitable time for collection.
