Stoke City 2013/14 Review: May/June/July


21ST // Tony Pulis departed the Britannia Stadium following a hugely successful seven-year spell in charge of the Club.

30TH // Former Wales, Manchester City and Fulham boss Mark Hughes was unveiled as new manager by Chairman Peter Coates and Chief Executive Tony Scholes at a press conference at the Clayton Wood training ground.


18TH // Jermaine Pennant resigns for the Club on an initial 12-month deal, and in the process becomes Mark Hughes' first capture at the Britannia Stadium.

20TH // The Club confirmed the appointment of Assistant Manager Mark Bowen, First Team Coach Eddie Niedzwiecki and Fitness Coach Damian Roden - all of whom had previously worked under Mark Hughes in a number of his previous posts.

28TH // Dutch international left-back Erik Pieters put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Club after a fee in excess of £2.5m was agreed with Erdedivisie side PSV Eindhoven.


2ND // Barcelona starlet Marc Muniesa became the third player to arrive at the Club in the summer, with Mark Hughes describing him as a star of the future after completing the capture of the Spain Under 21 defender.

10TH // The squad departed for a five-day training camp in Evian, France, to give the players and coaching staff the opportunity to work together at close quarters for the first time.

20TH // Mark Hughes oversaw his first game in charge of the Club - a behind the scenes friendly victory over Burton Albion. Jonathan Walters and Michael Kightly were on target in a 2-0 win, whilst former Potter Rory Delap started for the Brewers.

21ST // The summer tour of the United States got underway as the players and coaching staff travelled to Houston, Texas, ahead of an eleven day stay which included three friendly encounters.

24TH // The overwhelming heat and humidity took its toll on the Potters players as MLS side Houston Dynamo claimed a 2-0 triumph at the BBVA Compass Stadium in the opening game of the tour.

27TH // Jonathan Walters netted his second goal of pre-season as he and his teammates secured a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Dallas in-front of almost 10,000 supporters at the Toyota Stadium.

30TH // Goals from Michael Kightly and Brek Shea, who had two days earlier scored the winning goal for the USA in the Gold Cup Final, ensures the trip is rounded off in perfect fashion with a comfortable 2-0 win against Philadelphia Union.
