Stoke City 2013/14 Review: September

Thumbnail
1ST // Austrian international Marko Arnautovic concluded a summer switch to the Britannia Stadium from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen just 24 hours before the closure of the transfer window.

2ND // Mark Hughes completed his activity in the transfer market by swooping for Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland on an initial season-long loan deal on deadline day.

2ND // It was also a busy day for the Club as no fewer than four players departed the Britannia Stadium prior to the closure of the window at 11pm. Florent Cuvelier moved to Sheffield United in a permanent arrangement whilst Michael Kightly (Burnley), Ryan Shotton (Wigan Athletic) and Cameron Jerome (Crystal Palace) all made loan moves away from the Potteries.

14TH // Jonathan Walters twice went close to recording what would have been a deserved three points against title-favourites Manchester City, but the fortuitous visitors managed to hold on for an undeserved draw.

18TH // Brek Shea visits the elderly residents at the Grocott Centre in Heron Cross as part of the Club's Community Trust programme. The American was there to hand over equipment which had been funded by the Stoke City Community Fund.

22ND // Brek's compatriot Geoff Cameron nets his first goal for the Potters, however, the side went down to a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as the influential Mesut Ozil assists all three Gunners strikes.

25TH // Stephen Ireland grabbed his maiden goal for the Potters in the 2-0 Capital One Cup 3rd round win against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. Peter Crouch added gloss to the scoreline with a sublime goal of his own in the final minute.

26TH // England international 'keeper Jack Butland penned a 93-day loan with Championship side Barnsley as he looked to enhance his ever-growing reputation at Oakwell.

29TH // Jonny Howson's first-half effort secures Norwich City maximum points at the Britannia Stadium, and in the process summoned Mark Hughes to a first home defeat as manager.
