ASMIR BEGOVIC admits the players need to get back to basics and ensure that they bounce back from Sunday's disappointing 1-0 home defeat against Norwich City.
Jonny Howson's first half strike secured Norwich all three points at the Britannia Stadium, and in the process inflicted a first home loss of the season upon the Potters in front of the live television cameras.
The Bosnian ace acknowledges that the side were well below par against the Canaries, but says that he and his teammates will be itching to get things back on track when they travel to Fulham next weekend.
"It was just one of those days for us today where absolutely nothing went for us," The 24-year-old said following the game.
"We simply weren't at our best today, and found it difficult to gain any real momentum in the game. Fair play to Norwich though because they made it hard for us, especially in the first half.
"That said, we know we are a lot better than that and we have to show that this was just a blip when we face Fulham next week."
He added: "It is incredibly disappointing for us now, but we will get back to the drawing board, get our heads back up again and look forward to putting things right in the next game."
Begovic found it difficult to offer any explanation for such a sub-standard display having gone into the game on the back of an encouraging start to the season.
"It's a difficult question to answer to be honest, because I don't know what went wrong," he added.
"We are still a work in progress and we are trying to become more expansive, but sometimes things don't go as you would like.
"There are no excuses for today though, it simply wasn't good enough and we know that we have to improve dramatically if we want to get the right result against Fulham."
