STOKE CITY'S sister club the Austin Aztex have missed out on the chance to add play-off glory to their record-breaking achievements this season.
Adrian Heath's side produced a spirited fightback in their play-off quarter final with Montreal Impact at the weekend, but eventually lost 4-3 on aggregate.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, the Aztex found themselves 4-1 down on aggregate at one stage, but came storming back to set up a thrilling finish.
But it was the brilliance of Impact goalkeeper Matt Jordan which broke Aztex hearts at House Park as he pulled off a string of outstanding saves.
Nevertheless, that couldn't take the shine off what has been a fantastic season for Heath's men in which they achieved 15 victories, 10 more than their first season in the USSF D-2 Pro League, and also netted a League best 55 goals along the way.
While Jordan was one of the Montreal heroes on the night, it was the sharpness of Frenchman Ali Gerba that proved to be just as decisive in the outcome.
Gerba had already struck the two goals that gave Impact their first leg lead, and he bagged another brace at House Park, while Max Griffin, Eddie Johnson and Eddy Sebrango hit back with the goals which gave the Aztex a 3-2 victory on the night.
