Known to everyone who knows anything about English football, Geoff Hurst scored the first and only hat-trick in a World Cup Final against West Germany in 1966.

Surprisingly, he actually started out as a wing-half, but was converted to a striker by his then manager Ron Greenwood at Upton Park.

Hurst played for numerous other clubs during his career, including West Ham and West Brom, and joined the Potters in 1972/73.

Hurst was a tough centre-forward who held his ground well against defenders and was equally as brilliant on the ground and in the air.

These qualities led him to receive 49 full caps for England, in which time he scored 24 goals.

Naturally voted into the Football League 100 Legends list in 1998.
