At his best, Shilton was incredibly brave when diving at the feet of strikers, totally commanding in the air, and a cut above the rest in terms of positioning.

These are just some of the skills which led him to become England's most capped footballer ever, and to be known as one of the world's best 'keepers in the 1980s.

He came to City in 1974, where he stayed for 3 years before moving to Nottingham Forest. He was indispensable during his time at The Victoria Ground, missing only 2 League games in 112.

Shilton's merits during his career are endless. He helped Forest to the League Title in 1978, European Cups in 1979 and 1980, the Super Cup in 1979 and the FA Charity Shield in 1978.  He was also awarded the title of PFA 'Footballer of the Year' in 1978, and PFA Merit Award for services to football in 1990.

Shilton's retired in 1997 after 1,005 Football League appearances in total, and over 100 appearances for five different clubs - a record which has never been beaten. A year later he was included in the Football League 100 Legends list.

Appearances for the Potters: 120.
