City Ladies Triumph In Final

Posted on: Wed 21 Mar 2012

STOKE CITY Ladies are celebrating what they hope will be the first part of a glorious treble.

They swept aside FC Reedswood in emphatic style to lift the Staffordshire Ladies Challenge Cup.

The outcome of the final at Eccleshall Football Club never looked in doubt from the word go as City's Ladies went in front in the first minute when a free kick from Meg Bowyer produced an own goal.

After such a fantastic start to the occasion, they missed a number of good chances in the first half but had something of a let off when Reedswood hit the bar with a blistering 25-yard shot.

Tasha Catalano then pressed home City's advantage with two goals in the space of five minutes, curling a shot past the 'keeper after winning a 50-50 ball on a run into the box before Bowyer played another dangerous ball into the box for the midfielder to glance the ball home.

Striker Becky Knight added the fourth shortly after the hour mark when she poked home from close range and the triumph was sealed by a bullet header from Cassie Hyde following a corner delivered into the box by Emma Sanders as the Ladies ran out 5-0 winners in the end.
