Stoke City Ladies progressed through to the FA Women's Cup Third Round at the weekend following a 3-2 win at Copsewood Coventry.
One goal decided a close match, but the visitors felt that justice was eventually done as they gave away two very soft goals and missed a penalty.
Stoke took the lead on 21 minutes when a corner was flicked on by Emma Sanders for Chantelle Gallagher to head in at the near post.
Still celebrating the lead, the side were then caught out as Copsewood struck back immediately when a quickly taken free kick caught out the Potters defence, Jodie McGuckin steered the ball home from close range.
City then dominated the rest of the half but could not make the breakthrough.
Copsewood resumed with renewed determination after the break and got a quick boost when Lyndsey Breyton misplaced a back pass wide of the advancing Marshall and into her own net on 48 minutes.
An equaliser would follow on 65 minutes, however, when Sanders was put through and finished well from the edge of the area.
With extra time looming, a great goal settled a fine contest. Sanders controlled a through ball from Lucy Ridgway, then curled a 20-yard shot wide of the diving Smithers into the bottom left corner on 88 minutes to win the match.
City were handed a very hard draw in the 3rd Round as they will now play Leicester City from the Women's Premier League Northern Division on Sunday 13th December (kick off 1.00pm) where your support would be very much appreciated
This weekend, the Potters will return to Copsewood for league action in a bid to make it two wins from two consecutive games.
