Stoke City struck a last gasp equaliser to earn a valuable point against Burnley.
Liam Lawrence finished from the spot in the 90th minute to cancel out Kyle Lafferty's early opener.
Pulis made big changes to the side that was beaten at QPR last Sunday.
Carlo Nash made his debut in goal ahead of Steve Simonsen, Ryan Shawcross was replaced by Stoke's other debutant Chris Riggott and Rory Delap returned his ban, filling in for the suspended Glenn Whelan.
Stoke started brightly, with Lawrence almost teeing up Richard Cresswell at the back post, but Varga made a timely interception.
The Potters were rocked after only two minutes when Lafferty stole in at the back post to slot past Nash to give Burnley the lead.
City earned a corner after five minutes. A short ball found its way to Andy Griffin but his shot was headed out.
Slack defending by the home side at a corner nearly led to them being further behind, but luckily Carlo Nash was alert to dive on the ball.
Stoke first real chance came after fifteen minutes when Liam Lawrence sent Mama Sidibe through, but the big striker fired wide.
The Potters earned a free kick out wide after twenty minutes when Ricardo Fuller was fouled.
Lawrence's cross was met by Leon Cort but his header looped up for Gabor Kiraly to claim.
Salif Diao brought down Lafferty on the edge of the box with a challenge that earned him a booking, after half an hour, but James O'Connor's free kicked sailed over.
Leon Cort saved Stoke from going further behind five minutes before half time when his brilliant diving header diverted Wade Elliot's cross out for a corner.
Stoke came close to grabbing an equaliser moments before half time when Cresswell's cross flashed across goal, but the ball just evaded Lawrence at the back post.
City started the second half with real intent and immediately began to impose on the Burnley goal.
Fuller ran through but he fired his shot straight at Kiraly. Moments later Cresswell headed into the keepers' arms.
Fuller missed a glorious opportunity to level the scores on the hour but he slotted wide when through on goal.
Cresswell had the same luck when he beat his man and shot from distance two minutes later.
Stoke won a free kick in a good position after 65 minutes when Fuller was brought down.
Pugh hit an excellent shot bit it was parried away by Kiraly.
The hard working Sidibe was replaced by Gallagher with 20 minutes remaining as the Potters pushed for an equaliser.
Lawrence picked up an undeserved booking after 68 minutes when he was to adjudged to have fouled substitute Alan Mahon, although it appeared to be the City winger who was fouled.
As City pushed for an equaliser they began to leave gaps at the back. Substitute Andy Cole had a shot saved by Nash when through on goal.
Stoke's efforts finally paid off in the 90th minute when Cresswell burst through the middle and was pulled down in the box. Lawrence coolly slotted home the penalty to give City their reward.
Stoke kept pushing for the winner and almost found it in stoppage time.
A Lawrence free kick and a Gallagher long range effort were both deflected away.
Despite their efforts, the Potters had to settle for a deserved point.
