Up-Hill Struggle For City?

Posted on: Fri 27 Jul 2007

City pair Clint Hill and Darel Russell will both face late fitness tests ahead of tonight's clash with Real Madrid.

Hill has been suffering with blisters while Darel Russell has had back problems but both could recover in time for the game.

Russell Hoult is set to miss out with a cracked rib but every other player is in contention for a place in the starting eleven.

Elsewhere, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Iker Casillas and Roberto Soldado have all been ruled for the Galacticos whilst Miguel Torres also faces a late fitness test.

Robinho, Julio Baptista and Fernando Gago were all excused from the trip due to Copa America duties whilst City's Marlon Broomes and Matthew Hazley were left at home with injuries.

Spanish international full-back Michel Salgado has recovered from a calf strain and looks set to play, whilst Brazilian Cicinho may be tried out at left back.

Other familiar faces expected to take on the Potters include Italian World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro, club captain Raul, Sergio Ramos and Guti.

Debuts are also looming for €30,000,000 centre-half Pepe, fellow defender Christoph Metzelder, former Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek and ex-Barcelona star Javier Saviola.
