Captain's Log
Stand-in Captain Dominic Matteo praised the lads in the dressing room for the strong work ethic which they showed in the goalless draw with derby side Wolves yesterday.
"We have got a good dressing room and a great work ethic, there are no 'big time Charlie's' everyone just gets on with their job. We have a lot of fun as a team and we stick together; in this level if you have that attitude you'll win more than you lose," explained the experienced midfielder.
"The way we play is effective with two central midfielders quite deep is hard for the opposition to break down. I know players like Freddy Eastwood like to drop off and have a lot of space but I thought the lads played him well."
Matteo is adapting to his new role in the team as well as on the pitch after a long period of absence but he thinks he is ready for the challenge.
"I've missed so much football in the last couple of years so I'm going to need ten or twelve games on the bounce to get my fitness up; when you miss a lot you lose your match sharpness.
"I've played so many positions in my career sometimes you have to adapt I'm now playing just in front of the back four and I need time to adapt. It's difficult to be versatile, but if I play the same position for ten or twelve games I'll grow in confidence as well as fitness.
"Danny did a great job while he was here and he was a good captain. But he's got a chance to play in the premiership at a big club and good luck to him. Obviously you don't want to see your best players leaving but I've played in the Premier League and it's the best place to play.
"The Gaffer will tell you himself that we need more players to strengthen the squad, I know the transfer windows closed but I'm sure he'll be doing some sort of business," Dom added.
