Adam Rooney's Chesterfield dropped to fourth in Coca-Cola League Two as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Spireites took the lead at Saltergate after eight minutes played when Aaron Downes headed home from a corner.

The visitors equalised, however, on 56 minutes when Paul Benson netted after wrong-footing the keeper.

Rooney was substituted just after the hour-mark as Chesterfield looked for a different approach but failed to grab a winner in the remainder of the game.

The draw means Chesterfield fall in the table as a draw for Darlington and three points for Chester sees both teams leap-frog the Spireites.

It was no better for fellow loannee Robbie Garrett as his Wrexham side suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Barnet.

Garrett was suspended for the game following his red card at Macclesfield last weekend but saw a Liam Hatch second half brace grab all three points for the visitors.

Wrexham now slip back into the relegation zone on goal difference following Lincoln's draw with Peterborough.

The bad day for City's loaned out players was confirmed in the Blue Square Premier League as Altrincham and Ryan Shotton fell to a 3-1 home defeat to Ebbsfleet United.

Shotton played the full ninety minutes but the result sees Alty five points adrift of Farsley Celtic and safety at the foot of the division.
