Adam Rooney's Chesterfield picked up a point in the crunch-match at the top of League Two this past weekend.

Rooney was surprisingly named on the bench, however, as the Spireites drew 0-0 away at Darlington.

The striker did appear for the last ten minutes of the game, replacing Jack Lester, but had little time to make any effect with the game going on to finish goalless.

The Irishman's team remain fourth in the league on 23 points, a point behind Darlington in the third promotion place.

At the foot of the table, it was a former City player that wrecked Wrexham's dreams of a point at Notts County with a late, late strike from a free-kick.

Robbie Garrett returned to the line-up following a one-game suspension and played the full ninety minutes as the Dragons looked to pick up some valuable points away from home.

It was the home side who took the lead though, Spencer Weir-Daley taking advantage of some bad defending to round the keeper and make it 1-0.

Garrett's men equalised with twenty minutes left on the clock, substitute Silvio Spann opening his Wrexham account with powerful low drive from 25 yards out.

It wouldn't be a dream day for Spann, however, as he was shown a straight red card deep into stoppage time for bringing a clean-through Hector Sam down on the edge of the area.

Upstepped ex-Potter Neil MacKenzie to finish well from the free-kick and cruelly snatch all three points for the Magpies.

Wrexham now have 9 points on the board but drop to the bottom of the table with Lincoln City having scored one more goal so far this season.

Meanwhile, Ryan Shotton was given permission to line-up for Altrincham in their FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round tie at Kendal Town.

Shotton played the full ninety minutes as The Robins secured a 1-0 courtesy of a Colin Little strike thirteen minutes before half-time.

Alty rode their luck in the second half but held out to pick up the £10,000 reward and a home tie against Millwall in the First Round proper.
