Loan Rangers Round-Up

Posted on: Mon 05 Nov 2007

It was a disappointing weekend for City's loaned out players as Adam Rooney, Robbie Garrett and Ryan Shotton could only pick up one point between them.

Rooney's Chesterfield were cruelly denied all three at Saltergate, thanks to a 94th minute equaliser from Morecambe's Simon Grand.

The visitors had taken the lead in only the first minute of the League Two encounter when striker Wayne Curtis headed home after knock-down from a free-kick.

Former Nottingham Forest striker Jack Lester grabbed two goals in the second period, and when Rooney came on with 14 minutes remaining, it looked like it would be a comfortable win for the Spireites.

A Morecambe free-kick deep into stoppage time was only cleared as far as Grand, however, who struck a shot through a crowd of players and into the net from 25 yards out.

The result means it's now three consecutive draws as Chesterfield drop to sixth and level on points with both Darlington and Rotherham United.

The Spireites could get back to winning ways though when they travel to strugglers Lincoln City tomorrow night.

The Imps are joint bottom of the league with Robbie Garret's Wrexham after both teams lost over the weekend.

Garrett's side, who have a game in hand at the foot of League Two, went down by a goal to nil at home to Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the fixture in a game where Michael Symes grabbed the only goal of the game after 58 minutes.

Wrexham remain bottom of the table with Lincoln on 9 points and face Wycombe Wanderers at home on Wednesday evening.

Down in the Blue Square Premier, Altrincham and Ryan Shotton also lost by a 1-0 margin in their game at Histon.

Shotton featured at the heart of the defence in an injury-hit team, and was replaced himself with three minutes remaining suffering from cramp.

Alty remain in the fourth relegation spot, five points behind new Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott's former club Farsley Celtic.

The Robins' next game is on Saturday at home to Millwall in the FA Cup 1st Round, with Ryan Shotton permitted to play in the fixture.
