Loan Rangers Round-Up
Chesterfield's inconsistent form continued this past weekend as they followed up the 4-2 win at Lincoln on Wednesday with a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at home to Tranmere Rovers.
City striker Adam Rooney, on loan at the club, played the full ninety minutes in both games and has featured on the right hand side of midfield.
The side's attacking intentions at joint-bottom club Lincoln worked a treat with Jack Lester grabbing a hat-trick in the victory to keep the side in with a real chance of automatic promotion.
League One promotion hopefuls Tranmere Rovers arrived at Saltergate on Saturday though, and despite taking an early lead through Lester, the Spireites found themselves going in at half-time on level terms with the visitors.
Aaron Downes was adjudged to have fouled Chris Shuker in the penalty area and former Potter Chris Greenacre stepped up to score from the spot.
Antony Kay scored the winner with six minutes of play remaining to leave the Chesterfield concentrating on the league while Tranmere drew Bradford City in Round Two.
The day didn't get much better for Robbie Garrett and Wrexham either, as they went down by 4 goals to 1 at Peterborough United.
A Craig Mackail-Smith hat-trick for the home side ended any chances of the Dragons progressing to the next round although Neil Roberts hit a consolation on 66 minutes.
Aaron McLean's 88th minute goal ended any chance of a fight-back to see the Posh awarded with a trip to either Stockport or Staines in the next round.
Altrincham and Ryan Shotton also went out of the competition at the hands of Millwall but made the visitors fight for the win having led the game through a Chris Senior strike in first half stoppage time.
But the Lions were awarded a penalty on 53 minutes when Chris Lane handled on the line. Lane was shown a straight red card as Alan Dunne equalised from the spot.
Millwall then went ahead when Will Hoskins knocked in a rebounded Jay Simpson strike just after the hour.
Shotton used his long-throw to Alty's advantage for the remainder of the game but the home side couldn't grab that much needed equaliser.
Barrow or Bournemouth now travel to Millwall in the Second Round as Altrincham face Runcorn Linnets on Tuesday in the Second Round of the Cheshire Senior Cup.
