Jamaican Joy For Ric & Demar

Posted on: Thu 22 Nov 2007

City striker Ricardo Fuller was on the scoresheet as Jamaica beat Guatemala 2-0 in Kingston last night.

Both Fuller and Demar Phillips featured for the Reggae Boyz as the home side secured their second consecutive win ahead of the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The duo, who both played the full 90 minutes, were heavily involved in the win with Fuller opening the scoring after just ten minutes played.

A trademark bustling run by Ricardo saw the striker charge down a defender before chipping Luis Molina in the Guatemala goal to make it 1-0.

Phillips then combined well down the left side with Christopher Jackson but the latter's cross failed to find a yellow shirt in the middle.

The score was then doubled midway through the half when Rudolph Austin's ball down the right flank saw Bradford midfielder Omar Daley cut inside and fire a left footed strike past Molina from twelve yards out.

Phillips should have made it 3-0 in the second half when sub Dane Richards broke down the right and squared the ball only for the tricky winger to strike his effort over the bar from close range.

Both players will look to return to England full of confidence going into a tricky set of games in the Coca-Cola Championship, and although Fuller will miss this Saturday's game at Burnley through suspension, he will be available for the back-to-back home games with QPR and Norwich City.
