Loan Rangers Round-Up
City midfielder Peter Sweeney made his debut for Walsall over the weekend and couldn't have got off to a better start.
Sweeney, who joined the Saddlers' on a month's loan last Thursday, played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win at Northampton Town.
The Scotsman had former Potters Tommy Mooney and Michael Ricketts in attack and saw the opening goal come just before the break when Ricketts fed Darren Wrack through on the right-hand side with his cross being put home by Mark Bradley.
Substitute Ishmel Demontagnac added a second with four minutes remaining with the win moving Walsall up into tenth position, two points behind joint-fifth Leeds United.
Sweeney will return to the Sixfields Stadium again next weekend as the Saddlers face Northampton in the FA Cup Second Round.
It was a great day too for Adam Rooney as his Chesterfield outfit got a fantastic 2-1 win at table-topping MK Dons.
Rooney again started the game on the right side of midfield and played the full 90 minutes in the victory.
It looked like it may become a long day at the office when the Dons opened the scoring through Mark Wright after ten minutes, but Rooney's clever ball over the top of the defence saw Felix Bastians race clear to rifle past Willy Gueret to equalise on 32 minutes.
Jamie Ward then put the Spireites into the lead seven minutes after the re-start as he struck a good effort past a MK Dons defence that kept backing off.
Paul Ince brought the likes of Kevin Gallen and Colin Cameron on in a bid to salvage something but Chesterfield held onto the win and move back into the play-off positions.
Rooney now has a free weekend due to other club's FA Cup commitments but will be in action a week on Wednesday for the home game against Rotherham United.
At the foot of the table, Robbie Garrett was dropped to the bench for Wrexham's derby clash with Chester City.
Brian Little took charge of his first game for the Dragons but saw his side go 1-0 down after 27 minutes when Kevin Roberts scored a 25-yard screamer.
Michael Proctor equalised ten minutes later but Paul Linwood put the visitors 2-1 up in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time.
It was Proctor who would again pull Wrexham back into the game and his volley on 74 minutes sent the home crowd wild
Garrett was brought on for the final 12 minutes as Little looked to tighten the midfield and that decision worked well with the game going on to end 2-2.
The draw sees them drop to the foot of League Two, however, as Lincoln City won 2-1 at home to Notts County.
Wrexham are only one point behind though and have two games in hand, starting with Saturday's trip to Rochdale.
There will be no sign of Ryan Shotton in tonight's Setanta Sports televised Blue Square Premier clash between Altrincham and Stevenage Borough, meanwhile, as the young defender has failed a fitness test ahead of the game.
