Draw For Jamaican Duo
City's Jamaican duo Ricardo Fuller and Demar Phillips had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica last night as Rene Simoes took charge of his first game as the country's new Technical Director.
The Reggae Boyz snatched a last gasp equaliser through Tyrone Marshall after Chile substitute William Sunsing had put the visitors level with two minutes of the game remaining.
Ricardo Fuller partnered Wigan striker Marlon King up front for the international friendly while Demar Phillips featured in midfield alongside Barnsley's Jamal Campbell-Ryce.
Phillips went close to opening the scoring at the National Stadium just after the half-hour mark when his overhead kick crashed against the woodwork with the keeper beaten.
Jamaica continued to search for an opener in the second half but were caught out late on when Sunsing broke the offside trap and went on to coolly slot the ball pass the Donovan Ricketts to break the deadlock for the visitors.
Costa Rica looked like they had secured the win but the Reggae Boyz scored a late equaliser when Marshall headed home King's cross.
Fuller played 85 minutes of the match before being substituted while Phillips completed 80 minutes of the game.
Both players are set to arrive back in Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow ahead of Saturday's Coca-Cola Championship clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Elsewhere, Glenn Whelan was an unused substitute in the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 defeat to Brazil in Dublin last night.
