Away Form Deserves More Reward - Pulis

Posted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009

TONY PULIS expressed his frustration that Stoke City should have more to show for their efforts on their travels this season . . . after a four match unbeaten run came to an end in the televised match against Hull City.

City's manager highlighted the fact that it was the third time that they have gone in front away from home but failed to hold onto the lead, meaning that they only collected two points from those matches.

Having been forced to settle for draws at Bolton Wanderers and Everton, the Potters were undone by second half goals from their former midfielder Seyi Olofinjana and birthday boy Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in the lunchtime kick-off.

Pulis conceded that City hadn't played as well as they had done in their previous away matches, but he added: "That's the third time this season that we've gone in front away from home and not managed to hold onto the lead.

"I am disappointed that we have only won at Tottenham, because we have certainly deserved more for our efforts away from home."

"We've played very well away from home so far this season, although it's probably fair to say that we weren't at our best on this occasion.

"Nevertheless, the turning point was the chance we had early in the second half after some great approach work down the left. Had Matty's cross gone in rather than trickling past the post, then I think we would have gone on to win."

Another key factor in the outcome of the match was captain Abdoulaye Faye's sending off late on for a second bookable offence.

Pulis was not happy with referee Mike Dean's decision to give Faye his marching orders, saying: "I've watched it on Sky and I am desperately disappointed that he has been sent off. The second challenge was not a booking."

Hull's assistant manager Brian Horton said: "We had a bit of luck, especially when that cross from Etherington was deflected wide early in the second half. But we called for a big effort from the lads and they responded magnificently."
