TURKISH international Tuncay expressed delight at netting his first goal for Stoke City . . . and insisted that he is happy with life at the Britannia Stadium.

Speaking through an interpreter as he collected his Man of the Match award, the £5,000,000 striker stated that there is much more to come from him.

Tuncay scored the first of two equalisers in an action-packed encounter that ended with the Potters having to settle for a point against Wigan Athletic.

"It was great to make my first start today and even better to score!" he said. "I am very happy here and I want to tell the supporters not to worry."

Tuncay was making only his second Premier League start for City, after being limited to eight substitute appearances prior to last weekend's game at Arsenal since his move from Middlesbrough shortly before the close of the summer transfer window.

However, he believes that as long as the team are doing well that is the most important thing, adding, "If I wasn't happy then I wouldn't have played like I did today.

"I'm a team player and the most important thing is that the team do well.

"It's disappointing not to have won today because we had the chances to get the right result, but we didn't lose and that's the main thing.

"We have a good team, a good manager and good supporters and I'm very happy here."

Tuncay was particularly pleased to score on this occasion because his fellow countryman Tugay, the former Blackburn Rovers star, was watching the game.

Manager Tony Pulis was delighted with Tuncay's contribution, saying: "Tunny was on fire. He's now looking fitter and stronger and he's got the bit between his teeth. I am very, very pleased with him, he's a fantastic lad to have at the Club."
