Brodie's Battlecry

Posted on: Mon 29 Mar 2010
YORK CITY hot-shot Richard Brodie believes his side are capable of causing an FA Cup shock at the Britannia Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

The England 'C' international has been pivotal in the Minstermen's superb campaign so far, having already bagged a remarkable 25 goals.

But while he admits it will take a monumental effort to secure a passage through to the fourth round, he says anything is possible in the world's most famous domestic cup competition.

"It's a really special game - our cup final really. It's another Wembley after getting to the FA Trophy final last season," Brodie told the York Press.

"We will fully respect them because I looked at their subs bench the other day and they had Robert Huth, James Beattie and Ricardo Fuller on there who are all big names in the Premier League.

"But, at the end of the day, it's a game of football we want to win and whether the opposition is Stoke or Altrincham - no disrespect to them - our approach will be the same.

"It will be 11 against 11 and we've got nothing to fear really. They are a very good home side who are big and physical from their set-pieces and long throws, but that might suit us as we can handle that and we have a few weapons of our own.

"We've got to try and intimidate them and get in their faces. We have won ten and drawn one of our last 11 games so our results have been great and we won't be changing anything about how we play."

Brodie has gained a reputation as the hottest prospect outside of the Football League, and whilst he admits people will question whether he can do it at a higher level, he says Saturday will offer his the perfect opportunity to prove he can.

"There was a lot of banter flying around with the lads last season that I couldn't score against the top teams. I love banter, because I give out as much as I take, but I still went away thinking about that because the only one I got was against Burton," he adds.

"So, from that point of view, it was satisfying getting two against Mansfield on Boxing Day and I've also got goals against Oxford and Kettering this season. Stoke would obviously present me with a big scalp - a chance to score against a high-profile side - and I fully believe I can."
