Commemorative Matchday Programme
STOKE CITY are producing a special commemorative matchday programme for tomorrow's game against Blackburn Rovers to mark Sir Stanley Matthews Day.
The perfect-bound 100-page programme is an important part of the Club's celebrations of his lifetime and achievements at the Barclays Premier League game.
This publication features a special 12-page spread on the life and career of one of the world's greatest-ever footballers, on what will be 45th anniversary of his final appearance for the Club; a game in which City went on to win 3-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The likes of former Brazil star Pele, Sir Trevor Brooking, David Beckham and former Prime Minister Tony Blair tell us what made Sir Stan so special, while we take an emotional look back at his funeral which attracted over 100,000 people to the streets of Stoke on Trent in 2000. We also take an in-depth look at his illustrious playing career which spanned an incredible 38 years.
As well as all of that, we catch up with deadline-day signing Asmir Begovic, who gave 'Potters' matchday magazine his first ever interview as a City player earlier this week. In the feature he speaks about his delight at completing the move, his hopes for the future and tells us why he turned down the opportunity to join Spurs and Chelsea.
First team coach Mark O'Connor speaks in depth about the Bosnian international, having worked with him at close quarters during his spell at Fratton Park, while we also get manager Tony Pulis' views on Blackburn Rovers, the transfer window and his latest £3,250,000 capture.
We put Germany international Robert Huth 'In the Spotlight' and find out exactly what occupies his time away from the football pitch, while our regular 'A-Z' feature sees us taking a look at 'Hat-Trick Heroes' from the past fifty years.
And as if that's not enough, Abdoulaye Faye gives you his pre-match thought's ahead of the meeting against his former boss Sam Allardyce in his captain's column. BBC Radio Stoke and Stoke City Player commentator Nigel Johnson brings you his regular piece and we find out what's been going on with City's Academy.
All this is priced at just £3.00, so make sure you pick up your copy from either the club shop or one of the programme sellers around the stadium, and secure yourself a piece of Stoke City history.
