THOMAS SORENSEN is hoping to be fit for Stoke City's return to Barclays Premier League action against his former club Aston Villa on Monday . . . despite having to miss Denmark's Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday evening.
Sorensen decided not to risk aggravating an infection in an elbow injury which he sustained on the opening day of the season at Wolverhampton Wanderers and instead flew back to England for further treatment on the problem.
The Danish international goalkeeper had been hoping to line-up against Iceland, but after a training session on Monday, the injury flared up again on the morning of the match, forcing him to pull out of the qualifier in Copenhagen.
Sorensen will undergo a scan on the injury tomorrow but he is hopeful that a course of antibiotics will clear up the infection.
The 34-year-old has been having regular ice treatment on the elbow since he picked up the injury three weeks ago at Molineux.
But he insisted that staying fit for his Club was his priority over playing for Denmark when he reported for international duty.
The problem is not connected in any way to the dislocation which he suffered to the other elbow at Stamford Bridge last season.
