Russell Hoult signed for the Potters at the end of January 2007 on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion.
The giant goalkeeper had played almost 200 games for the Baggies and was included in the PFA's 2001/02 Division One Team of the Year.
Russell signed a one-year extension to stay at the club until the summer of 2008, and made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup defeat at Rochdale.
