Diego completed a 3,000,000 euros move from Club Nacional on the eve of the September transfer deadline day.
Arismendi was an influential performer as Club Nacional won their League title last season.
He made 28 appearances in that campaign and his impact led to him being named Player of the Year.
He has been capped twice by Uruguay at full international level, having made his debut in a friendly against Norway in May last year.
Diego made his first appearance in a Stoke City shirt during the reserves' win over Wolverhampton Wanderers later that month. His transfer could eventually rise to 5,000,000 euros.
