A Stoke City XI defeated Gloucestershire based outfit Mangotsfield United by four goals to nil on Friday evening.
A goal in each half from Ben Marshall plus others from fellow Crewe Academy graduate Matthew Lund and a trialist were enough to give earn the first victory of pre-season.
Several first team players were fielded for the game including the likes of Andy Wilkinson, Tom Soares, Ibrahima Sonko, Andy Griffin and Steve Simonsen.
The Potters began brightly with both Lund and Louis Moult testing the Mangotsfield goalkeeper early on.
Marshall would then go on to break the deadlock after 24 minute, drilling a low shot beyond the keeper after working his way infield well from the wing.
Wilkinson then went close to doubling City's advantage on two occasions. Initially, he saw his first time strike turned behind for a corner then another attempt strike the post with the keeper beaten.
It would be Lund who would score the second, though, side footing home a low cross from the left hand side from close range.
After the break, Lund would have got his second of the night had it not been for a defender on the goal-line who would clear his glancing header away from danger.
City would make it 3-0 just before the hour-mark, however, with a trialist latching onto a ball through the Mangotsfield defence before holding of two defenders to finish well from eighteen yards.
A fourth was earned seven minutes later by Marshall who finished off Soares' good work down the flank with a close range header.
Wilkinson had another chance denied in the latter stages while a lob shot from Soares also went close.
