City's kicked-off their first game at the Lyme Valley Stadium this season with a convincing win over Bradford City.

A brace from youngster Danny Smith and an own goal from Bantams defender Darren Holloway, all in the opening period, put the result beyond doubt and erased memories of a disappointing defeat by the same margin against Barnsley last week.

Noel Blake's men were in control from start to finish and could have gone ahead as early as the third minute had Adam Rooney met Martin Kolar's centre with more conviction.

However, the deadlock was broken in the twentieth minute as Smith latched onto Kolar's knock-down and fired past visting 'keeper Russell Howarth.

Czech star Kolar was proving a menacing presence behind front-man Rooney and was again the provider three minutes later as he crossed for Holloway to slice into his own net.

Carl Dickinson then saw a header cleared off the line before Smith extended City's advantage to three by reacting quickest to head into an empty net after Howarth spilled Kolar's long-range drive.

The unfortunate Holloway's afternoon went from bad to worse seconds before the break as he saw red for an elbow on Kolar.

The Potters carried on in the second-half where they left off in the first as substitute Ryan Mullen headed against the woodwork before Karl Henry spurned a great opportunity to make it four from the penalty spot.

The midfielder fired agonisingly wide of goal after a Bantams defender handled Junior's cross in the area.

Home 'keeper Rob Duggan was a virtual spectator throughout, but did need to be on his toes twice late on to foil Colbeck as City's second-string cruised to a deserved victory.

City: Duggan, Quigley, Shotton (Hazley 70), Wilkinson (Mullen 45), Dickinson, Henry, Junior, Sweeney, Smith, Kolar, Rooney (Garrett 84). Subs (Not Used): Cloherty, Vass.

Bradford: Howarth, Holloway (sent-off 45), O'Brien, Stewart, Ainge, Bentham, Swift, Penford, Brown (McGuire 70), Smith (Denvers 45), Colbeck. Subs (Not Used): Mitchell, Taylforth.
