Huddersfield 0 Stoke City 1
Martin Paterson's eighth Pontins League goal of the season was enough to earn the reserves victory over high-flying Huddersfield.
The Terriers would have gone top of the Pontins League with a victory.
But that never looked likely after a youthful City side grabbed control of the game and Paterson applied the coup de grace.
The City striker almost opened the scoring in only the second minute of a lively start but fired off-target.
Teenage strike partner Nathan McDonald also kept the home defence on its toes in the opening exchanges and Town goalkeeper Simon Eastwood had to be at his best to deny Josh Wilson and then Paterson.
The goal City worked hard to deserve came midway through the first half when Ryan Mullan sent Paterson clear and this time he gave Eastwood no chance with a deft chip over the head of the advancing 'keeper.
Huddersfield roared back in an open game and Joe Skarz almost levelled the scores in the 43rd minute but his header hit the underside of the crossbar.
Matt Young thought he had equalised a minute after the restart but his effort was disallowed for offside.
City held firm and threatened to increase their lead when Liam Page fired wide before midfielder Jeffrey Ho wasted a great chance to kill the game four minutes from time after being set up by substitute Adam Rooney, but blazed over.
Desperate late home pressure almost produced a last-gasp goal, but Jon McCombe's header drifted wide.
