Nathan Jones made eight changes to his starting XI at the DW Stadium on Tuesday evening as he looked to lead his side into the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Potters boss made wholesale changes to his line-up with only three players, Liam Lindsay, Sam Clucas and Ryan Woods, retaining their places.

There was a first start of the season for goalkeeper Adam Federici whilst Cameron Carter-Vickers was thrust into the side for the first time following his deadline day move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Jordan Cousins returned as did Sam Vokes, whilst summer arrival Mark Duffy was handed his first start after making a cameo appearance from the bench in the weekend defeat against Charlton Athletic.

With stand-in skipper Danny Batth being rested in Greater Manchester, Jones opted to hand the captain’s armband to teenage defender Nathan Collins.
